The Five Bands
Each life area is broken into five bands, anchored to population percentiles. They’re reference points for where you sit, not a ladder to climb. Your values determine which areas are worth pushing further in.
The Bands
Awareness
You understand the life area and can assess your own position. No habit changes or financial investment required.
Top 20%
Solid basics in place – more capable than 80% of the population on this value.
Top 5%
Notably more capable than most people.
Top 1%
Exceptional capability. Takes significant time and effort.
Top 0.1%
Roughly 1 in 1,000 people. Substantial personal mastery, though not “the best in the world”.
Why Percentiles
Percentile is the most neutral anchor – rather than the framework deciding what “good” looks like, the population does. The behavioural benchmarks shown for each band are best-guesses at what that band looks like in practice. They help you self-locate, but the underlying definition is the percentile.
Population distributions are not the same shape across life areas. For some – like fitness – moving up a band takes years. For others – like having a clear sense of purpose – a single decision can move you several bands at once because most people are bunched at the bottom. The bands tell you where you are, not how hard it was to get there.
